Major Depression Treatment Options
There are many potential treatment options for depression. While the most commonly recommended treatments are talk therapy and medication management, at Serenity Mental Health Centers we recognize that an individual’s treatment plan should be as unique as they are and strive to offer the best treatment options available, along with compassionate care and doctors who work with you to find a treatment plan that meets your goals without compromise. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Ketamine Therapy are two such treatments we offer in addition to more conventional treatments such as medication management.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive medication-free depression treatment designed to stimulate the brain and improve symptoms of mental illness. TMS is a very effective form of treatment, especially for those who have had little success with talk therapy and traditional medications, also known as individuals suffering from treatment-resistant depression.
Ketamine IV Therapy
Originally used as a surgical anesthetic, ketamine has emerged in recent years as a highly effective depression drug for many, particularly those who have not responded well to traditional antidepressants and other treatments. At Serenity, we offer ketamine by way of infusion under close supervision of a licensed nurse.
Ketamine is very fast acting, and patients have reported symptom relief within a few hours of their first infusion. Unfortunately, ketamine does not offer long-term results for most individuals, so we typically recommend pairing with a treatment like TMS or medication management for best results over time.
